Bringing second doses to the doorsteps of seniors

An essential part of bringing this pandemic to an end has been vaccinating everyone who wants it.

We hit an amazing milestone at the end of June, providing vaccines to the doorsteps of all seniors living in WoodGreen buildings.

Along with Michael Garron Hospital Primary Care and the East Toronto Health Partners, we went door-to-door offering second doses to the folks who may have mobility issues or struggle to access the vaccine through other clinics.

“This is incredibly meaningful for our clients. Before the pandemic, we were able to offer group exercise and social events. While our primary care has continued, many of these folks have felt the isolation for well over a year now. This is a step back to normal,” said Tracy Murdoch, Director, Housing & Homelessness Services at WoodGreen Community Services.

WoodGreen has been delivering programming to many people in many languages for over 80 years, allowing us to ensure that anyone who wanted the vaccine were able to get it.

During those final vaccine pushes in our buildings, staff heard from many seniors that it was very hard for them to get the doses at other clinics. Those who got the vaccine are looking forward to having visitors and putting this pandemic behind them.

WoodGreen will continue to be part of many outreach efforts through the East Toronto Health Partners pop up vaccine clinics as well.
